Do All of the Contents of My Office Need to be Removed During Water Damage Repair?
Montrose became incorporated in 1882, the same year that the Denver & Rio Grande railroad was built to Grande Junction and reached Montrose. The Gunnison Tunnel was completed in 1909, bringing water from the Gunnison River to the Uncompahgre Valley, providing much-needed irrigation water around Montrose. The tunnel is 5.8 miles long and helped turn the arid area around Montrose into an agricultural hub.
Nestled between the San Juan Mountains in the south and the Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park, the Montrose area offers many outdoor activities to enjoy. Among the many things to do in and around Montrose, locals and tourists enjoy the following:
- Museum of the Mountain West
- Ute Indian Museum
- Montrose Water Sports Park
- Montrose Botanic Gardens
- Flying Iron Ranch Alpacas
- Covered Bridge Ranch
- Magic Circle Players
- Storm King Distilling Co
- Montrose County Historical Museum
- Ute Trail
- Montrose Visitor Center
- Chipeta Lake State Wildlife Area
- Cimarron Song Gallery
- Mack's Family Entertainment & Sports Center
- Montrose Farmers Market
Montrose Farmers Market
The Montrose Farmers Market is located downtown in S. Uncompahgre and is open every second weekend from January until April. The market offers many different local foods, an assortment of prepared foods, and local products produced by local artisans.
Museum of the Mountain West
The Museum of the Mountain West aims to provide education for adults and children about the history and culture of the American West. There are many historic buildings and artifacts to explore and enjoy. The museum is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9:30 am until 4:00 pm. Patrons can also rent the museum for special events—for example, weddings, corporate team building, and parties. Get married in the 1913 German Lutheran Church. Although it retains the look and ambiance from 1913, it is air-conditioned and heated for your comfort.
Ute Trail
Hiking the Ute trail in Rocky Mountains National Park is an enjoyable experience. Hikers have spotted herds of Elk, and there are bighorn sheep and mountain goats that inhabit the area during the summer months. The elevation of the trail begins at 11,000 to 11,500 feet. Hikers should be prepared for all weather types at this elevation and acclimate to the elevation before attempting a strenuous hike.
Montrose Botanic Gardens
The Montrose Botanic Gardens is enhancing the landscape that was tumbleweed, sage, and cactus. The gardens are free to enter, although donations are welcome. The flowers and plants change with the seasons, which delivers a new experience every time you visit. Check for availability and opening times during the current health restrictions.
